I posted this on Twitter, but I wanted to post it here too. It seems a lot of people are quoting Hitchhiker's today, but I wanted to share my absolute favorite quote from the work of Douglas Adams with you. It's from one of his lesser known novels.
"I rarely end up where I was intending to go, but often I end up somewhere that I needed to be."
Mr. Adams was an Atheist, but his writing often dabbled in the spiritual. I would say his words helped me form my own beliefs about the world, in the sense that the universe is strangely ironic in its random determinism, and other such unknowable nonsense we so desperately desire to understand.
We may never know with lies between the realms of existence and nothingness, or whether our actions in this singular life hold any meaning or if it's ephemeral nature obscures a truth greater than our comprehension. Regardless of your own personal beliefs, I think we can all agree that Mr. Adams found immortality in the legacy he left in the hearts of those who are proud to call ourselves his fans.
Take the day to remember the man behind the words. Feel free to share quotes that hold meaning for you.
Thanks,
